Coming up with new Christmas wrapping ideas is one of the fun parts of the holidays. I’ve been experimenting with a gift wrapping in an understated style and palette, starting with plain brown paper packages wrapped up with string (name that musical!), and mixing in some cedar sprigs.
And then I added something extra for fun.
Here’s what I did…
Here’s what I used to create this entire gift wrapping collection:
- Small sprigs of cedar needles
- Hobby wire
- Jute twine
- Flocking spray (sold in stores only)
- Builder’s paper
- Set of 25 key tags
- Martha Stewart Living Winterberry Golden Pinecone Ornaments

Add unusual items to add fun and whimsy to your gifts, like using a key tag as a gift tag.

Use a stencil to add a festive message to your wrapping paper.

To attach the greenery to these gifts, we used three different methods. We created a tiny “mini-wreath” that creates a circular spray around two central pinecones. For the step-by-step instructions to make this miniature wreath, check out Adorn Your Holiday Gifts with a Cedar Mini-Wreath here on the Home Depot blog.

I also used a similar technique to create mini-strands of cedar garland for the gift wrap. By this method, we attached sprigs of cedar to our jute twine, then applied the jute twine as you would a normal holiday ribbon. The easy-to-follow instructions are in Mini-Garland to Adorn Your Gifts.

For something even simpler, try combining two sprays of cedar with two pinecones for a super-fast gift topper. See Cedar Sprigs and Pinecones for the very simple way to do that.

Who doesn’t love receiving a beautifully wrapped gift? And this gift wrapping look is simple and easy to achieve.
