It can be hard to decide on an area rug once you’ve established the foundation of a room. How will this look with my current furniture? Will it stain easily? Will it show dirt? There are a lot of things to consider when making this large purchase! One of our favorite ways to make an impact on a room is to choose bold, playful rug patterns to ground your space. Another perk of this decorative strategy? The rug patterns often hide dirt better than solid colored area rugs!

TOP ROW:

Rug patterns that are reminiscent of traditional tribal prints are popular. That’s what you have with the Artistic Weavers Sausalito Desert Sand Area Rug, featuring a spiral, geometric suzani rug pattern of Central Asia. Traditional suzani textiles feature a print that has been embroidered onto the cloth in vibrant saturated colors. The Artistic Weavers Sausalito Desert Sand Area Rug, however, has a very understated, neutral palette, offering a modern update to this tribal classic.

For a more vibrant patterned rug, try a graphic pattern like the Artistic Weavers Pomona Mulled Wine Area Rug. The tessellation pattern of this rug gently references the tile patterns often found in Islamic cultures, but the colors of this particular flooring option make it versatile enough to suit any home décor.

A large-scale floral print, like the one found in the Artistic Weavers Hastings Light Brown Area Rug, brings an element of femininity and whimsy into a space, while the color palette of black and brown balances the print.

MIDDLE ROW:

Though the Artistic Weavers Portola Feather Gray features a pattern that relies heavily on rectangular shapes, the subtle blending technique of the rectangular shapes feels almost ikat-like. With soft grays and taupes, you can mix this rug with either warm or cool neutrals.

The hexagonal, honeycomb pattern of the Home Decorators Collection Castleberry Gold/Grey Area Rug feels fresh but sophisticated in a yellow and gray color palette. Use this rug in a space that needs a serious jolt of energy!

Textiles with coral patterns, like the Lanart Coral Cream Area Rug, have risen in popularity the past couple of years because they at once feel bold and graphic, and soft and natural. You can never go wrong by incorporating prints and materials that are found in nature — they almost always add an inviting, casual air to a space.

BOTTOM ROW:

The Artistic Weavers Redding Papyrus Area Rug also features a suzani print, though it does so with a more vibrant color palette of gray and yellow.

For a more casual, soft look in rug patterns, try a small-scale floral print. The Martha Stewart Living Folklore Dune Area Rug would work well in a space that has a lot of white, or could be used in a space with more color as an anchor.

Finally, the Artistic Weavers Orinda Ivory Area Rug has an almost retro vibe with its wavy geometric pattern. The touches of robin’s egg blue throughout the print give it a playful feel.
