In our Style Challenge series, we ask some of our favorite bloggers from around the web to surprise us with their ideas for creating a stylish and functional space using Home Depot products as a starting point.
For the Holiday Edition of the Style Challenge, Traci Hutcherson, the talented DIYer from Beneath My Heart, agreed to dress up a Christmas tree. She did it all with an adorable owl theme and bright, classic colors. We love the cozy little reading nook she nestled in next to the tree, too.
There is nothing that gets me more in the Christmas spirit than decorating the Christmas tree. This long held tradition is a favorite event in our home. It just doesn’t seem like Christmas until our tree is sparkling with lights and ornaments. Since I have been married, we have always had one Christmas tree in our home each season. It is always covered in white lights and years of collected family ornaments.
This year, I am very excited that we will have two trees in our home. A live tree with family ornaments in our den, and this beautiful faux tree from The Home Depot in our master bedroom. The 7 ½ ft. Paley Pine Tree by Martha Stewart Living was super easy to put together and light up. I loved that! The tree has pine cones and berries already attached to the branches.

For my ornaments, I chose the Winterberry Collection from Martha Stewart Living because I love the traditional colors and rustic feel. I love a lot of red and white when I decorate for Christmas. This collection of ornaments also included browns and golds that went well with the rest of the décor in our bedroom.

There are cute little mittens, acorns, owls and mushroom-like tree ornaments that shimmer with glitter on the tree.

The owls were my favorite …

I loved the owls so much, I decided to make an owl my tree topper. I found this shiny red owl at a home store. Isn’t he cute?
I added the white feathers to the bottom of the owl to make it look as if he is sitting on a feather nest.

I can honestly say that this tree looks as beautiful unlit as it does all lit up.

After decorating the Christmas tree, I wanted to try and create a space where my family and I could sit beside the tree to read books or sip hot chocolate.

The beautiful rug that frames this space is from Home Depot. It is a 5×8 Mohawk Home Marlow rug. The tree skirt is also from The Home Depot and adds a punch of color beneath the tree.

One of our Christmas traditions is to read a Christmas book together by the tree each night in December. This will be the perfect spot for us to read our Christmas books. I had Eli try out our new space in our bedroom. Here is what he looked like when I said I was taking a picture for my blog …

Now this is more like it!

My family and I are looking forward to many warm and cozy winter nights snuggling up in this chair next to our beautiful Christmas tree.

Looks great Traci! Eli looks like he enjoyed himself
Beautiful tree…. agree tree will be as beautiful unlit…. but above all the “O come let us adore Him”… keeps all in perspective and reminds us the real reason for the season…… Thank you!
What a beautiful tree!! You did a great job putting this little space together Traci!! And I love the chalkboard hanging on the wall!! Beautiful!
The tree looks beautiful! I love the lighting on it…wow what an impact. The whole space is beautifully done.
Beautiful tree, great little reading nook and I love the addition of the wall quote…”O come let us Adore Him” that reminds us of what we are celebrating! Makes me excited for Christmas!
Absolutely stunning work, as usual! Makes me yearn for the holidays….Love Traci’s work! :O)
Traci, your tree looks beautiful! I had no idea that you could buy an artificial tree that already included pine cones and berries. What a super idea. I guess the folks at Martha Stewart Living are exactly the ones who would come up with that–brilliant! Your woodland theme goes beautifully with the pine cones and berries. The owls are adorable, but I must say I’m especially partial to the acorns.
Like you, we have always had just one tree at Christmastime, but I do like to put an artificial tree on our front porch. Since I have it decorated as an outdoor living room, I love to have a lighted tree there–it looks pretty from the street and it looks really lovely as you walk up to the house. But last year my old artificial tree bit the dust. I will definitely check out the Martha Stewart LIving trees at Home Depot as I look for a replacement.
Good JobTraci! I love what you did with all of the Home Depot goodies. I never thought I would admit to this but.. I love our Home Depot and visit way more than most men. Ha! Hope you enjoy your holidays!
Thank you, Susie, for being a Home Depot customer. Lots of women LOVE wandering the aisles of The Home Depot. My wife loves shopping at The Home Depot way more than I, and I work for the company!
