How much more outdoor entertaining would you do if your deck was outfitted with the right patio furniture? Imagine how al fresco dining would heighten the experience of a casual Sunday breakfast with the family.
We asked interior designer Erika Ward of BluLabel Bungalow to outfit her deck for outdoor dining. We loved the family friendly under deck patio she created for our Patio Style Challenge series, so we were thrilled she agreed to join us for another Style Challenge.
Her newly designed upper deck is beautifully appointed and ready for outdoor dining. Read on for her terrific ideas on how to create your own outdoor dining room.
The Home Depot Patio Style Challenge not only ushered in warmer temperatures, but also turned up the heat on our deck with the Fall River 7-Piece Patio Dining Set by Hampton Bay. Its fiery-hued upholstery and cushions make a red-hot statement that is tantalizing to the senses and stimulating to the appetite.
Each chair in the Fall River set boasts weather resistant lumbar cushions in an energetic pattern of cherry red, black, and coffee brown. This combo “plays well” with colors and allows for the introduction of bright yellow accents sprinkled across our beautiful deck.
The powder-coated steel frame comes in a sophisticated dark brown finish our family loves. The upscale design continues with a lattice motif appearing on the back of the chairs and on the tabletop. Why battle the wind with a tablecloth when your surface is this beautiful?
Did you notice the addition to our outdoor dining set? We love the look of mixed seating in our breakfast nook indoors, so we made no exception outdoors. A loveseat from the Hampton Bay Walnut Creek collection integrates beautifully with our outdoor furniture plan. It encourages all who sits there to linger long after the meal is over.
I couldn’t resist adding playful throw pillows and a throw to insert a hint of my family’s energetic personality. These items I generally bring inside when not in use.
At the end of the deck a pair of host chairs on swivels allows for another conversation area that’s somewhat private, yet its proximity is close enough to join the table talk.
A half oak barrel planter turned upside down serves as a clever all-weather coffee table. Other entertaining areas include this family-friendly bar cart stocked with refreshing G-rated beverages to quench kid and adult sized thirsts. Also within reach are board games, Legos, and a football when the boys want to toss around the pigskin in the yard.
Last, but surely not least, is the outdoor gift that keeps on giving. Our resident chef, also known as Daddy, or better known as my Dear Husband never misses an opportunity to fire up his KitchenAid Cart-Style Charcoal Grill. This surprise bonus has earned me the “Wife of the Year Award” and a summer of delicious grilled fare. So many more reasons to “kiss the cook.”
How sweet are the aromas of the great outdoors, with everything from food to flowers, everyone is clamoring for a seat at our table or simply taking time to smell the forsythia.
