The materials you use to build your outdoor deck have to withstand tough weather conditions. Advances in pressure treated wood make it a good choice, but wood decking still needs regular maintenance to keep from deteriorating after months of being soaked by rain and baked by the sun.

That’s why a lot of homeowners are choosing composite materials to construct their backyard decks. In this video Home Depot associate Geoff Case explains the benefits of composite decking materials. He features The Home Depot’s Veranda line of composite decking materials, which has lower maintenance costs, requires no staining, sanding or sealing, and comes with warranties against cracking, splitting and warping.

I would like to use the composite decking to recover my fireplace chimney on the roof. It has wood trim with some siding, but I see no reason why I couldn’t cover the chimney with the composite decking The wood that is there no is splitting, chipping and peel, I want to sell my home soon and I’d only like to do this once. Any reason I shouldn’t use composite or if not composite then what? Cement boards??

    Thx
