It’s no secret that functional storage is a must-have when it comes to the busiest room in the home, the kitchen. That’s why we weren’t surprised when our team of kitchen designers shared their list of trending kitchen design elements — they all focus on efficient storage options! When you’re planning a kitchen remodel, here are some kitchen design ideas you should consider.
TOP TO BOTTOM:
On-counter storage cabinets, shelves, and even drawers are a growing trend. While it may seem counter intuitive to slash counter space for extra storage, there are certain parts of the kitchen that might not necessarily benefit from having that extra square foot of counter space. Take the above space, for example. A tucked away corner often gets cluttered and doesn’t necessarily make for the most useable counter space. Here, it’s outfitted with a couple of drawers and a cabinet.
Another emerging favorite in kitchen design is the single bowl sink, edging out a double bowl sink in many kitchen renovations today. Both options have their benefits, but we love the versatility of the single bowl sink. It can handle large stock pots, fry pans, and cookie sheets with ease! Plus, if you opt for an extra deep sink, dirty dishes are out of sight in case a neighbor pops over for a cup of coffee!
Waste isn’t necessarily top of mind when you’re planning a kitchen redesign, as many folks are likely to be more focused on door styles, countertop materials, and other more ‘fun’ elements. But, if you work a pull-out trash can [Knape & Vogt In Cabinet Pull Out Trash Can is what we see in the illustration] into your new kitchen, you certainly won’t regret it.
Cabinet trays are another organization superstar. This is true whether it’s a roll-out tray in the pantry, which allows you to easily access dry goods deep in the bowels of the cabinet (those items that got lost in your old kitchen!), or a roll-out organizer in your lower cabinet that helps keep cookie sheets, muffin tins, and wire racks neat and tidy. All the storage bells and whistles are a great investment when it comes to building a kitchen that will function for you and your family for years to come!
