Let’s make holiday decorating easier this year!
You know how it goes, you’re out in the cold decorating for the holidays and you think to yourself, next, year I will do this or that differently! I finally did something about that a few years ago and my holiday decorating is much easier now.
I started to keep portable toolboxes and bags for specific things like gardening and simple repairs but I now have a toolbox for when I decorate for the holidays. I like to decorate the outside of my home for many holidays all year long so having this toolbox at the ready is a great help for when you are looking for just the right tool to get the job done. You can use any toolbox or bag to do the trick and you can label your box so you know exactly what is in it and when you need it.
Below is my list of suggested items to put in your Holiday Toolbox, but first here are my three essential tools to make your decorating tasks faster and more fun:
My Three Essentials for Outdoor Decorating
What the heck is monofilament? Most people know it as fishing line or invisible hanging wire. This is the best accessory you can have in your holiday decorating toolbox. You can tie back icicle lights that have gone astray or use them to secure various outdoor decorations such as inflatables, light sculptures, etc. You can find monofilament in many different strengths such as 20lb. or 50lb. strengths. This simply means that the wire will hold up to that weight. I usually have both 20 and 50-pound strengths on hand in my toolbox.
I just can’t decorate without my cable ties! Cable ties allow you to fix broken decorations, hold things together and so much more. They are perfect for creating light topiaries on your garden art, trees and more.
Command kits come in all different sizes, weights and shapes! These are great for indoor decorating because they don’t leave marks, but many of them also work for outdoor decorating as well.
Tools and Accessories to include in your Holiday Decorating Toolbox:
- Hammer (if you’re like me, you can never have too many hammers)
- Screw drivers (one medium and one small Philips head, and one medium and one small slotted head)
- Power Drill (although for that is kept separately because I use it so often!)
- Rubber Mallet
- Longnose and Regular Pliers
- Wire Cutters
- Landscape Staples (great for stabilizing decorations and creating some imaginative displays!)
- Duct Tape
- Electrical Tape
- Clear Packing or Sealing Tape
- Cable Ties
- Command Kits
- Hanging Wire
- Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
- Super Glue
- Touch Up Paint & Brush (in your home’s exterior colors for those opps moments)
- Holiday Light Tester
- Extra String Light Fuses
Bonus Tip: Be sure to remove those extra light bulbs and fuse packs from your string lights and outdoor décor. Add them to your toolbox so when you have to replace a bulb you can find them easily. Also, safety pins and rubber bands might be useful to add as well!
These are just my suggestions for your Holiday Toolbox. What tools do you use for holiday decorating or what would you add? Share your thoughts!
