Living room inspiration board with Brexley collection bookcases

One of the great things about design is that it can take something simple and functional, like a bookshelf, and turn it into something that has impact and style. Finding those pieces that perfectly marry form and function makes us want to put together entire rooms that draw inspiration from those beautiful pieces.

Take the Brexley Collection bookshelves in this inspiration board. Sure, it’s simple enough to add some shelves to a frame and make a bookshelf, but the tall narrow shape and the x-shaped frame of this pair of bookshelves requires imagination and engineering to make work.

TOP ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT):

The traditional blue-and-white design of the Olivia Ceramic Pottery urn makes it the perfect addition to this light living room. It also makes a lovely focal point on the Brexley bookshelves because of its sculptural shape.

We picked a very light gray for the wall color in this space, Behr’s Rhino (710E-3). Gray is a really easy neutral to work with since it looks equally lovely with whites, blacks, and browns.

Throw blankets are an important element in any living room, because you never know when you’ll want to curl up to watch a move or perhaps read a book. For this space, we picked a black and white knit throw, the Melrose Throw, for its timeless color combination and nubby warm texture.

Pillows are an easy way to give a neutral-hued room a new color palette. With just a few throw pillows and an urn, we created a charming blue-and-white palette in this sitting area. The Braxton pillow and the Pisa pillow make the perfect coordinating pair.

MIDDLE ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT):

The Brexley 5-Shelf Bookcase in Chestnut was the inspiration for this space. We loved the x-shaped frame, as well as the rich wood finish. Coupled with a few other dark wood accessories, the effect is balanced and a bit masculine.

Woven blinds are a great way to add some richness and depth to your space. In this space, we used a bamboo blind in a mahogany finish.

BOTTOM ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT):

Great upholstery is an important investment in home decor, because unlike that pretty silk flower arrangement, you’re going to be using this every single day. The classic style of the Greenwich sofa makes it the perfect base for any space with its tufted back and roll arms.

We were charmed by this Espresso Nailhead Cocktail Table with its harlequin pattern, brass nail heads, and heavy padlock latch. It makes a dramatic coffee table for this living room and complements the other traditional furnishings in the space.

With so many pristine finishes in this space, we wanted to bring in a little something with age and patina. The Mandrill Teakwood Puzzle Bowls are the perfect solution.
