There are all sorts of contemporary home decor items on the market today, and while most of these pieces are beautiful, sleek fixtures and furniture pieces, you may not always know how to incorporate these modern styles into your existing decor. Or perhaps you have a very modern space, but you aren’t sure how to make it feel comfortable, warm, and homey.
In this inspiration board, we wanted to show how to warm up a modern bathroom. The Etoo wall light was the jumping off point for this space as it perfectly reflects contemporary style with its streamlined form and spherical shape. We also included a very contemporary freestanding bath tub, the Barclay cast iron tub with wooden feet, and a simple, sharp bathroom vanity with a marble top from Home Decorators Collection. These three items created the basis of this space. The next thing to do was jazz it up with colorful accessories and art. Here’s what we chose.
TOP ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT):
Obviously function is top priority in the bathroom, so you have to have a few organizational tools like a towel bar and some hooks. We love the Gatco Latitude II towel bar because it also has a shelf, the perfect place to store a stack of towels. After choosing the Gatco towel bar, the coordinating Latitude II robe hooks were a no-brainer.
When selecting light fixtures, vanities, tubs, and mirrors, it’s important to notice the different shapes of these items. Because the Etoo wall light, with its glowing spherical shade, was our jumping off point for this bathroom, we wanted to incorporate an equal number of spherical pieces as square. The Reflections Mia Mirror was the perfect complement to the Etoo wall light because of its white frame which features a very modern take on the traditional scrollwork of a mirror. The curved lines of the Mia Mirror play off the shape of the Etoo wall light, creating a wonderful harmony.
Artwork is a fun way to inject a happy dose of color into any space, and this all-white bathroom really needed a jolt of poppy red. This beautiful abstract painting, Sorbet by Charlen’s Abstracts, feels at home in a modern bathroom because of its abstract form, but the warm colors provide an energetic mood to this space.
MIDDLE ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT):
Colorful towels are an easy way to work a touch of color into a bathroom. Whether you go for full-on color and pattern, or a subtle band of color at the hem, think outside of the classic white towel. We loved the Perpetual Blooms towel for its intricate pattern and poppy red shade.
A few modern accents here and there will play up the contemporary style of the sconces and bathroom fixtures, like the sleek glass canister from CB2.
The extra jolt of red on the Jacinta Candle Pot from Anthropologie feels fun and reinforces the poppy red accents found in the Perpetual Blooms towel and the abstract painting.
We chose the Fraser vanity because of its clean lines and simple cabinet hardware, which made it the perfect vanity to pair with the Etoo wall light.
BOTTOM ROW (LEFT TO RIGHT):
The orange striped basket from Pottery Barn serves as the perfect catch-all for dirty towels and wash cloths.
A stool is a lovely finishing touch for the bathroom, and the rich wood and curvy silhouette make the Mace Wood Wenge Stool the best fit for this contemporary space.
Freestanding bath tubs are the ultimate luxury in a bathroom, and we loved how this particular style, the Barclay cast iron tub with wooden feet, blends the traditional shape of a bathtub with the clean lines indicative of contemporary bath fixtures. Paired with the Barclay 3-Handle Faucet, the overall look is sleek, modern, and irresistibly inviting!
