The Home Depot created quite a stir recently when it featured a DIY vertical garden project on the homedepot.com homepage and on television. We published a short article about the vertical garden project here on the Apron blog, and included a link to download the instructions.
We got a big response to that article, including some photos from Apron reader Peter Thunberg of Schaumberg, Illinois. Peter tells us he and his ten-year-old son Tyler completed the project as a Mother’s Day gift for Mrs. Thunberg. They certainly did a beautiful job on it.
He also provided a couple of pictures of the project in progress.

Peter tells us his home will be included in a garden walk sponsored by his neighborhood association in Lexington Village. That happens on August 18. The Schaumburg family has high hopes the vertical garden will help them win first prize in the garden contest.
He’s promised to let us know how the garden walk goes, and we’ll update you here.
We’d love to see photos of your gardening projects– this vertical garden project, or something else. Leave us a comment, and we’ll contact you. And thanks, Peter, for sending us your project photos.
On occasion, we run a feature called Real Stories, Real Doing about everyday people who incorporate The Home Depot into their homes, families and businesses. Would you like to be featured? Post a comment below, and share your story.

I think you gave the people in the above article the name of the city in the last paragraph about them. Isn’t Schaumburg the name of the city?
Thanks for spotting that typo. It’s fixed.

What a cool idea! I wonder how it holds up long-term (no moisture issues)?? What kind of wood was used? Cedar?
Vertical gardens are great idea, I have seen these done with pallets and they look great.
INSPIRING !!! CONGRATULATIONS.
this is an amazing project, congrats!!.
