Ashley and Whitney are sisters who wear many hats. Whitney is a stay-at-home mother with five kids, and Ashley is a stay-at-home mother of three. They started blogging when they both moved into new homes, and were challenged to decorate more space on a budget. Ashley and Whitney love scouring high and low for shanty items and transforming them into something chic, which led them to their blog, Shanty2Chic!  Join them as they learn to transform their homes on a budget, and prove that they don’t need to wait on their husbands to do the big jobs. This month, Shanty2Chic will be hosting one of our Do-It-Herself Workshops at The Home Depot.

Hey there!  We are Ashley and Whitney from Shanty2Chic! We are so excited to share some of our favorite, past DIY projects with you all!

We started our blog in August of 2009, on a mission to decorate our newly-built homes on a budget. Most weekends, you could find us scouring Craigslist for furniture, that we could repaint and use to fill our homes. Fast forward 3 years later and we are building our own furniture, for our homes, with power tools and our bare hands!

The idea of brand new, custom-built furniture at a very low cost was just the motivation we needed to educate ourselves about power tools! Today, our families are eating and sleeping on the furniture we have made, and it is such an awesome feeling!

We are firm believers in hands-on learning, especially when it comes to DIY!  This is why we are so thrilled about the new Do-It-Herself Workshops at The Home Depot! We know you have so many creative juices flowing, especially with Pinterest being the go-to for DIY ideas! We also know how intimidating new projects can be! That’s what is so great about The Home Depot DIH Workshops! They will give you the instruction and tools that you need to make your ideas a reality! Oh…and it’s FREE!

Pinterest has quickly become our go-to for creative ideas! Whether it’s a new paint color that we have been wanting to try, a beautiful piece of furniture we’d like to build or a new window treatment style we are intrigued by, all you need is a little picture to get your ideas flowing! So go ahead and pin those awesome but intimidating DIY projects because YOU CAN complete them!

We will be co-leading a DIH Workshop in our area and want to encourage you all to find a participating The Home Depot, in your area, on February 21!  It’s time to get hands-on and create!!

We’re thrilled to have Whitney and Ashley share their passion for DIY with our readers. We have more information about The Home Depot’s  Do-It-Herself Workshops and our Weekly Workshops online. And if you’re in Plano, Texas, be sure to join Whitney and Ashley for their workshop on Febuary 21 at Home Depot #551, 6200 W. Park Blvd., Plano, TX  75093.
