We bring you these numbers just in time for our Great American Fix Up event, which includes great ideas and deals for energy savings, like an insulation calculator and lower prices on items like weatherstripping. There are also bright ideas for getting your home ready for the fall, unique indoor paint projects, ways to make your home safer and more secure and much more. New projects will be unveiled throughout the Fix-Up, so go ahead and roll up your sleeves.

Editor’s Note: In the above graphic, appliances include ENERGY STAR certified clothes washer, dishwasher and refrigerator.

First Look: Sharp Microwave Drawer

Posted by: on September 9th, 2012 | Make A Comment

Sharp Electronics has redesigned the mircowave oven with the Sharp Microwave Drawer. It’s an alternative to countertop or over-the-range models. It opens and closes like a drawer, which allows you to place your microwave in places you don’t normally find microwaves, offering a custom build look for new kitchens.

The ventilation can be routed above the cooking surface, enabling the microwave to be placed under kitchen countertops or cabinets. You can choose to place it under the meal prep surface of a kitchen island, for instance, or next to your stove.

Home Depot associate Joey Corona demonstrates the Sharp Microwave Drawer, and highlights its new advanced features in this week’s First Look video:

1. This Washer is Quiet and Easy on Your Clothes

The Adora washer has a special agitator– the HyrdoWave® Quiet Agitator, they call it. It moves the clothes around in the water in a long, slow arc. First Look: Maytag AquaLift Self-Cleaning Oven Technology

Posted by: on April 15th, 2012 | 2 Comments

If there’s one yucky drawback to cooking in an oven, it’s cleaning up baked-on sugary fillings or sticky carmelized marinades that have spilled over and caked onto the bottom of the oven. Once these iron-clad substances attach themselves to the oven, they don’t give up without a fight.

Those odds are now back in your favor thanks to Maytag AquaLift self-cleaning oven technology. The secret is Maytag’s exclusive interior coating that activates with a little water and heat. The effect enables moisture to develop underneath baked on food particles, which then detach from the oven in only 40 minutes, making clean up a breeze. Watch Home Depot associate Joey Corona put this technology to the test as he tackles baked-on cherry pie filling in this video:

We share them here so that Home Depot customers, especially professional builders and serious do-it-yourself enthusiasts, can see what’s new in the aisles at The Home Depot.

Spring Forward This Weekend And Check Smoke Alarms, Thermostats And Security Lights

Posted by: on March 10th, 2012 | Make A Comment

This weekend signals the beginning of daylight saving time in much of the U.S. Here’s a friendly reminder about a few things you’ll want to do beyond just setting all the clocks forward one hour…

1. Check all batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors

Make sure all detectors in your home have sufficient battery power. Twice a year, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors need their batteries tested. So this weekend, push the test button on your detectors. If they respond with a loud siren or flashing light, they’re good to go. If not, replace with fresh batteries and retest. Or just go ahead and replace them to be extra sure.

2. Adjust the time forward one hour on your programmable thermostats, appliances and clocks

It’s important to adjust the time on these household products to ensure energy savings. If you don’t adjust the time on your thermostat, your heater will kick on one hour late. If you forget this step, you may wake up to a cold house. Likewise, adjust the timer on your kitchen appliances and clocks to make sure your alarms and programmable cooking timers are correct.

3. Adjust the time forward one hour on your sprinklers and security lights

Don’t forget your outdoor timers!  Make sure your security lights turn on at dusk, which arrives an hour later this Sunday. Also, adjust your irrigation sprinklers to ensure they turn on at the correct time of day.
