A Star Wars-inspired Christmas tree by Ashley and Greg Brown of 7th House on the Left | For The Home Depot Style Challenge

In our Style Challenge series, we ask some of our favorite bloggers from around the web to surprise us with their ideas for creating a stylish and functional space using Home Depot products as a starting point.

We were anxious to see what Ashley and Greg Brown would come up with when we sent them a big box of Home Depot Christmas decorations for our Holiday Style Challenge. On their blog, 7th House on the Left, Ashley and Greg write about renovating and decorating their home. But for us, they show us their geek sides by creating a Star Wars-themed Christmas tree. Greg explains how they came up with the Star Wars theme. And check out their clever ideas on how to give ordinary Christmas ornaments a Star Wars treatment.

Everyone who knows me knows I’m what you might call a “professional geek.” I’m a web developer, Doctor Who and Star Wars are at the very top of my “favorite franchises” list, and one of my favorite pastimes is tweaking my computer. So when Home Depot sent us this bonus item in our “Mystery Box,” we knew right where it needed to be … my office.

Although we made the decision to convert our dining room into a home office earlier this year, I thought it would be fun to transform it back to a space for entertaining during the holiday season. So, we brought the dining chairs out of storage and set up the Christmas tree to create a festive spot to share with friends.

A Christmas Tree with Adorable Woodland Touches from Traci of Beneath My Heart

A festive Christmas tree from Beneath My Heart

In our Style Challenge series, we ask some of our favorite bloggers from around the web to surprise us with their ideas for creating a stylish and functional space using Home Depot products as a starting point.

For the Holiday Edition of the Style Challenge, Traci Hutcherson, the talented DIYer from Beneath My Heart, agreed to dress up a Christmas tree. She did it all with an adorable owl theme and bright, classic colors. We love the cozy little reading nook she nestled in next to the tree, too.

There is nothing that gets me more in the Christmas spirit than decorating the Christmas tree. This long held tradition is a favorite event in our home. It just doesn’t seem like Christmas until our tree is sparkling with lights and ornaments. Since I have been married, we have always had one Christmas tree in our home each season. It is always covered in white lights and years of collected family ornaments.

This year, I am very excited that we will have two trees in our home. A live tree with family ornaments in our den, and this beautiful faux tree from The Home Depot in our master bedroom. The 7 ½ ft. Paley Pine Tree by Martha Stewart Living was super easy to put together and light up. I loved that! The tree has pine cones and berries already attached to the branches.

A neutral and gold Christmas tree with DIY ornaments

In our Style Challenge series, we ask some of our favorite bloggers from around the web to surprise us with their ideas for creating a stylish and functional space using Home Depot products as a starting point.

We’re thrilled to have Courtney Fernan of the blog A Thoughtful Place take part in the Holiday Edition of the Style Challenge. She used the Paley Pine Christmas Tree from Martha Stewart Living as the focus of her challenge. She shares her Christmas tree decorating ideas, including some very clever ways to modify your Christmas ornaments. And take a look at the stunning photos showing her shimmering Christmas display.

We opted for a neutral tree full of natural elements, various textures and a touch of glamour. To compliment the other design elements in our living room, we chose golds, creams and browns to create our look. And in all honesty, my daughter’s obsession with cheetah print definitely played a huge role in the designing of our tree. She insisted we use it somehow so we went for it! The DIY elements of this tree are super simple and can be done with very little time and supplies. (You can read more about how I layered mirrors above the mantel on my blog.)

Tips for Decorating Your Live or Artificial Christmas Tree

Posted by: on November 19th, 2010 | Make A Comment

I love curling up on the sofa at the end of a cold winter’s day with my hot chocolate. Shutting off the TV and all of the lights except for the Christmas tree and the fireplace brings the end of the day into focus.   There’s something very special about the warmth and shimmer of enjoying the Christmas tree lights.  Maybe it’s all of the memories of Christmas’ past or that quiet moment, but regardless it’s one of my favorite things to do during the Christmas season.

Your Christmas tree is the centerpiece of your holiday celebrations.
