This Do-It-Herself Workshop was a big success! We were so pleased at the great turnout at Home Depot stores across the country. We have a downloadable set of instructions for the Framing a Mirror with Tile project, too, if you didn’t pick them up at the workshop, or if you missed it.

And if you missed this one, don’t worry, we have more Do-It-Herself Workshops ahead. Check our Do-It-Herself Workshops page for current information.

Sally, of the home improvement blog Homemaking Reality posted an article about the fun she had attending this workshop in the Atlanta area. The article has some great photos of the event and the tile mirror frame project underway.

Here’s the original article announcing the February 2013 Do-It-Herself Workshop:

This February marks the launch of the first of four Home Depot workshop events inspired by Pinterest! Just like you, we love to browse Pinterest for great home improvement and DIY ideas. Now you can tackle some of your favorite pinned projects at the Do-It-Herself workshop at your local Home Depot store.

Shanty2Chic: Do-It-Herself Workshops

Posted by: on February 13th, 2013 | One Comment

Ashley and Whitney are sisters who wear many hats. Whitney is a stay-at-home mother with five kids, and Ashley is a stay-at-home mother of three. They started blogging when they both moved into new homes, and were challenged to decorate more space on a budget. Ashley and Whitney love scouring high and low for shanty items and transforming them into something chic, which led them to their blog, Shanty2Chic!  Join them as they learn to transform their homes on a budget, and prove that they don’t need to wait on their husbands to do the big jobs. This month, Shanty2Chic will be hosting one of our Do-It-Herself Workshops at The Home Depot.

Hey there!  We are Ashley and Whitney from Shanty2Chic! We are so excited to share some of our favorite, past DIY projects with you all!

We started our blog in August of 2009, on a mission to decorate our newly-built homes on a budget. Most weekends, you could find us scouring Craigslist for furniture, that we could repaint and use to fill our homes. Fast forward 3 years later and we are building our own furniture, for our homes, with power tools and our bare hands!

Erin Hankins, the author of the blog How to Nest for Less, is an Art Director based in St. Louis, Missouri. Her blog features daily adventures of DIY and home improvement projects, interior decorating and all things creative. Her work has been seen across the web including features in Country Woman magazine, Family magazine and the January 2013 cover of DIY Lifestyle magazine. This month, Erin will be guest-hosting Do-It-Herself Workshops at The Home Depot.

I’m thrilled to be teaming with The Home Depot for the Do-It-Herself workshops this month. We’re going to help women gain the skills and confidence to make basic repairs and easy home improvements with FREE monthly workshops - giving step-by-step instructions and hands on experience.

White painted cabinets with black appliances and grey counter tops

One of my biggest Do-It-Herself makeovers to date (and also the least expensive) was a mini-kitchen makeover by simply painting my kitchen cabinets. The bland builder grade oak cabinets were given a fresh start in bright white. Just a couple coats of primer and paint completely transformed my space for less than $100.

Earth Day: Live Green. Save Green.

Posted by: on April 22nd, 2012 | One Comment

Earth Day is a celebration of our environment and a day to reflect on our individual impact on the world around us.  We all hear the messages: Replacing old light bulbs to CFL’s or LED bulbs can save huge amounts of energy let alone money and so on and so on.  But how many of us are really taking action?

Many folks think that in order to make a difference it will cost them a ton of money or they will have to settle for a lesser quality product or the effort they put in won’t make much of a difference.  That’s simply not true anymore.

Get hands on experience at the Home Depot’s Do It Herself Workshops

The ladies have spoken. The Home Depot is expanding our Do It Herself Workshops for women.

Here at The Home Depot we want everyone to have the skills and confidence to be a first class do-it-yourselfer. Our free weekly workshops are a great way to get step-by-step instruction and a little hands on experience learning how to do basic repairs and easy home improvements. They’re a lot of fun, too.

The workshops are very popular with experienced home improvement aficionados as well as beginners, and of course anyone and everyone is welcome.

More and more women are taking on DIY projects these days, and not all women grew up helping their dads (or moms!) with home repair projects. So someone suggested a while back that maybe we should try out some workshops created specifically for the ladies. That was the beginning of our Do It Herself Workshops here at The Home Depot.
