Organization Tips and Home Storage Ideas

Posted by: on January 29th, 2013 | One Comment

Almost every home has one: a scary closet, a little room of horrors, or the junk drawer from another planet filled with who knows what. There’s no time like right now to tackle your clutter problem. To lend a hand, we put together a few organization tips in this video to help you sort out the messy areas in your home.

Getting started is always the most difficult step in the process of reclaiming order from chaos. Just remember – you don’t have to do it all at once, nor should you even try. Whether it’s the closetgaragekitchen pantry, home office or the shed in desperate need of organization – jump in and get started somewhere.

We’ll show you some storage systems and options for organization that you can easily customize to get everything back into its proper place.

You’ll see wire shelving systems to tame unruly closets and pantries, modular and ceiling mounted storage for overrun garages, tracks systems that turn attic spaces into neat storage hideaways and our ever popular plastic totes for versatile everyday storage and organization. Plus, you can also take a look at cabinets, cubbiesshelves and a whole assortment of accessories that will enable you to turn underutilized space into functional storage.

And the best news is – once you do get organized, it’s much easier to stay organized.

We have more DIY and home improvement videos here on the Home Depot blog and on The Home Depot’s YouTube channel.

From the Forums: Overhead Garage Storage

When it comes to decluttering the home, the garage often becomes the last ditch place for all the stuff we don’t want to throw out, but have no other place to store. And, let’s face it, it’s also usually the last space in the home that gets the attention it needs for some effective storage and organization solutions. The good news is, garages offer a lot of options for storage that other parts of the house don’t. Overhead garage storage might be the best of these solutions.

That was the topic of a short article by The Home Depot’s Eileen Claar posted on our online How-To Community Forums. She’s a long-time Home Depot associate who posts under the handle DesigningWoman. She really knows her stuff when it comes to organization and storage ideas. Overhead garage storage frees up so much space on the floor of your garage that it’s almost like increasing the square footage of the area. It’s a very cost effective storage solution, too. It almost seems like every garage should have overhead storage.

Ask almost any homeowner with a functional basement or attic space and they will probably tell you how lucky they are to have the space. If they’re honest, many will also admit they’re not making the best use of the space. It may have even become the place to dump items that are no one in the house uses.

Even if you don’t want or need your basement to be as immaculately decorated as the one above from Better Homes and Gardens, you might want to take note of the practical storage solutions the vintage cabinets and staircase provide.

Organizing a long-neglected basement takes planning, determination and some inspiration. So, to help you take that big step down into the basement and emerge with a beautifully reorganized space, here are a few basement storage ideas to consider.

First Look: Husky Garage Storage Cabinets

Posted by: on October 14th, 2012 | Make A Comment

Husky Garage Storage Cabinets offer many advantages over the competition. So if you are wanting to keep your tools, outdoor power equipment and gardening supplies in great condition and keep them secure at the same time, Husky is the brand for you.

So what advantages does Husky hold over other models? For starters, Husky floor cabinets use sturdy bolts, washers and lock nuts in the construction of their floor cabinets, versus just sheet metal screws for the competition. Also, Husky has larger dimensions and market leading shelf load capacity to the tune of 165 lbs. for Husky and just 100 lbs. for the competition.

For base cabinets, Husky offers a stainless steel work surface and welded construction. They also come 90 percent pre-assembled and have the market leading cabinet load capacity of 550 lbs., which the competition simply can’t match. And for wall cabinets, Husky offers 2 sizes: a 28-inch wide and a 48-inch wide cabinet, while the competition only has one size. Need another advantage? Consider Husky’s wall cabinets are lockable, while the competition’s wall cabinets do not lock.

Home Depot associate Kate Moran demonstrates Husky garage storage cabinets and compares them to the competition in this week’s First Look video.
