The gift wrapping can say as much as the present itself. And it’s usually not that hard to “say” something with pretty gift wrap. When giving a gift to a man, often it takes a little something extra to make that statement. That’s what I was thinking when I came up with these unusual gift wrapping ideas with unexpected materials. Of course, anyone can enjoy receiving a present that has what you might call out-of-the-box wrapping (even if there is a box involved), so try these gift wrapping ideas yourself, and see what other crazy ideas you can come up with.

Gift Wrapping Ideas for Him: Using a tarp zipper to wrap gifts

When receiving a gift, there’s nothing more delightful than unexpected gift wrapping! It adds an extra level of excitement to the gift you’ve carefully picked out, and it shows the recipient that you’ve spent time and effort selecting the perfect package.

I decided to have a little bit of fun in the gift wrapping department and select a material you might never expect — a tarp zipper! Using a spare bit of tarp, a tarp zipper, and some hot glue, we created this unique and unusual gift wrap! This is one of the more unusual gift wrapping ideas you’ll find, I think.

Gift wrapping is one of those things that some people absolutely love and some people couldn’t care less about. I personally look forward to wrapping, and love to create a cohesive “look” for all of the presents under the tree. I love coming up with creative gift wrapping by using one particular type of wrapping and ribbon. It’s also possible to create a unified feel by repeating colors throughout each gift.

In the Christmas gift wrap collection I created above, I used only a few materials for each gift — builder’s paper, silver contact paper, jute twine and mason twine — but I accented many of these gifts with some extras.

DIY Decor: Add Some Extra to your Holiday Gift Wrap

Coming up with new Christmas wrapping ideas is one of the fun parts of the holidays. I’ve been experimenting with a gift wrapping in an understated style and palette, starting with plain brown paper packages wrapped up with string (name that musical!), and mixing in some cedar sprigs.

And then I added something extra for fun.

We’ve seen the DIY mini-wreath for your gift wrap, and how to create a mini-string of garland, but if you’re looking for a way to incorporate a bit of greenery in an even simpler way, just attach a couple sprigs of cedar with two pinecones!

It’s a simple 10 minute project that makes a delightful addition to a simply wrapped gift in brown builder’s paper. I think this is one of the best Christmas wrapping ideas you’ll see.

I used the cedar mini-wreath with plain brown paper and twine, creating an understated Christmas presentation in muted brown and evergreen.
