A Christmas centerpiece decorates a coffee table

One of my favorite ways to dress my home for the holidays is to add in fresh greenery wherever I can. Of course that means putting up a Christmas tree, hanging wreaths wherever possible, and planting paper white bulbs that bloom throughout December. For something fresh this year, I decided to create a snowy tableau on my coffee table using a wreath, faux snow, and candles. If you don’t want to dress up your coffee table, this would make a lovely Christmas centerpiece for a dining room table, kitchen island, or even a console table!

A beautiful Christmas mantel in turquoise, white and silver

In our Style Challenge series, we ask some of our favorite bloggers from around the web to surprise us with their ideas for creating a stylish and functional space using Home Depot products as a starting point.

When Kelly participated in our Patio Style Challenge this past spring, she wowed us with her colorful, casual outdoor living space. We knew she had to participate in our festive Holiday Edition, and we were thrilled when she accepted the challenge! Take a look at how she managed to mix and match various textures and finishes to create a gorgeous Christmas mantel.

When I start thinking about holiday decor, two things come to mind:  sparkle and a pop of color. I love to use unexpected color to add a modern twist to classic elements like a wreath and garland.

This year, I’m using a palette of turquoise, silver and white; pairing Martha Stewart Living ornaments with a collection of mercury glass bottles, vases and votive candles.

When The Home Depot asked if I wanted to be a part of their 2012 Style Challenge for the Holiday season, I knew right away Challenge Accepted! I LOVE decorating for Christmas, and this is by far my favorite outdoor set up I’ve ever done. I knew right away I wanted a rustic outdoor scheme. I wanted to really bring nature into my décor pieces and have that homey-rustic feel. I added in hints of reds, white, and greens for the color scheme to have a “natural” holiday feel.

A beautiful dining room decorated for Christmas

In our Style Challenge series, we ask some of our favorite bloggers from around the web to surprise us with their ideas for creating a stylish and functional space using Home Depot products as a starting point.

Erin Souder, the founder and editor-in-chief of House of Earnest, is constantly burning up the blogosphere with her creative DIY projects. Her limitless creativity and fantastic taste never ceases to amaze us! We thought she’d be a natural fit for the Holiday Edition of the Style Challenge series. We sent her Christmas decorations from The Home Depot, which she used to create a beautiful dining room ready for the holidays. Take a look at the beautiful photos, and pick up some stylish DIY Christmas decorating ideas for your home.

One of my favorite parts about getting older has always been that I become more and more in tune with my own style, and this is especially true around the holidays. I’ve always been one to make things my own by using unconventional materials, and heading to The Home Depot for decorating supplies is one of my secret weapons! From contractors paper to twine and hooks, there is so much that can be done to turn a home into a festive Christmas retreat.

Home Depot boxes arrived at my doorstep filled with wintry, snowy, woodsy flair and I couldn’t have been more excited. I love adding natural, neutral elements to my home decor, and Christmas is no different.

A black and white stitched table runner with a little Scandinavian flair works as a foundation for the reds, golds, and greens that I had to work with for the challenge. I used packages of Martha Stewart ornaments with manila shipping tags to tie together bundles of gold flatware and name tags for each dinner guest.

A cozy, nature-inspired mantel by Jenny of Everyday Occassions

In our Style Challenge series, we ask some of our favorite bloggers from around the web to surprise us with their ideas for creating a stylish and functional space using Home Depot products as a starting point.

Jenny is an entertaining expert who lives in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as the author of the blog Everyday Occasions. One look at her table settings and menus, and you’re sure to want an invitation to her next soirée. We challenged Jenny to style, not a table setting, but a cozy, fireplace mantel in her family room. Here, she shares with us her gorgeous Christmas mantel ideas.

For the Home Depot Holiday Style Challenge, I transformed my mantle into a Cozy Snow Dusted Fireside Escape. I tend to decorate during the holidays using natural materials when at all possible. I love the look of brown craft paper wrapped packages, burlap ribbon, pinecones, and fresh greenery. In the past, I have gravitated toward using a lot of white and gold for decorating the holidays that resulted in a sophisticated look, but since we’ve had our daughter, Emma, I’ve made a turn to the more cheerful and traditional colors.

We knew from the start that she would make the perfect addition to our Holiday Style Challenge because of her fabulous taste, and we were thrilled when she agreed to share her holiday decorating ideas for the front door with us. We love the way she styled her chic and casual Charleston home — and endured puzzled looks from her neighbors!
