Spring is quickly approaching, and before we know it, it will be time to brush off those patio cushions, pull out the umbrella, and prepare for afternoons basking in our outdoor rooms. With that in mind, we thought it would be nice to sit down with our resident design expert Sarah Fishburne, the Director of Design & Trends, and hear how the inspiration for Patio 2013 came about, and what design trends we can look forward to seeing this year in outdoor furniture.

With this year’s collections, you can expect to see patio furniture that blends the styles of your traditional dining rooms with the comfort and durability of your outdoor dining areas.

DIY Privacy Screen

Porches and patios are a great way to add an extra space to your home without having to take on an addition. One common problem with porches and patios, however, is their proximity to the neighbors. While you may enjoy their friendship, it’s still nice to have a little privacy as you sip your coffee on the front porch reading the Sunday morning  newspaper. The Home Depot’s design team is dedicated to bringing you the patterns and colors that will make your home beautiful and comfortable. You can see their expertise and designer’s eye in all of The Home Depot’s home decor products, including our new 2012 patio furniture collection.

We sat down with Sarah Fishburne, our Director of Trends & Design and lead designer for our 2012 patio furniture collections, to discuss how The Home Depot patio furniture collections are conceived, created and sold online and in Home Depot stores across the country. Here’s what she has to say about designing for The Home Depot:

Most people don’t realize this, but we begin planning each year’s patio collections 18 months before they even hit stores. There is a lot of attention to detail that goes into each design, and by the time a collection hits the stores, we have hand-selected every aspect of the final design.

The design process always begins with inspiration! We gather inspiration from around the globe, but most of our patio collections are inspired by COLOR!
