Simple Ideas for a Gorgeous Christmas Decor

We were blown away by the stunningly beautiful Christmas decor Kristin Jackson created for her dining room. She’s back with a more casual approach to Christmas dining, along with an explanation for the simple approach we all can understand.

Kristin’s Christmas brunch set up is just as gorgeous as anything we’ve seen from the talented interior designer. Kristin writes about design and decor on her very popular blog The Hunted Interior, and she’s sharing her Christmas brunch ideas here on The Home Depot Blog as part of our Holiday Style Challenge series. We sent her and several other prominent decor bloggers mystery boxes of Home Depot Christmas decorations for them to use in creating fresh and practical holiday decorating ideas.

This isn’t just about brunch, though. Kristin shares her ideas for decorating a Christmas mantel, too, and even a clever idea for unique wrapping paper.

Every Christmas, I have grand visions of a formal Christmas Brunch… but after our daughter is up extra early, the gift wrap and ribbon begin to unravel and the questions of “can you please put batteries in this?!” start, my good intentions of a beautiful meal are simply put on the coffee table for the family to enjoy at their leisure.

This year I decided to embrace the inevitable location and combine the two ideas into one. A simple yet elegant brunch that allows everyone to enjoy the wonderment of Christmas morning while still being able to create a lovely experience as well.

Adding a basic tablecloth (a staple in any home) to any table instantly adds elegance. Using this on the coffee table is completely unexpected, and when paired with the surroundings of holiday decorations, your living room can really be transformed to a magical space.

I always find myself perched on the floor anyway, so a throw pillow acts a a great stand in for a seat.

Before I even opened the boxes, I knew I wanted to deck out our favorite room in the house with my new Christmas digs from Home Depot. My fiancé Brad loves to cook, so naturally our kitchen is the heart of our home. Yes, that’s right ladies… I’ve got a keeper for sure! In addition to the time we spend in our kitchen day to day, it always seems to be the gathering place for our guests when we entertain so it must be “well dressed” for holiday festivities!

A Luminous Holiday Fireplace Mantel

I get pretty into decorating for the holiday season — so much so that we don’t have space in our house to store all of my boxes of decor! While this is certainly one of my favorite times of the year to decorate, I always get stumped when it comes to the mantel. For my Home Depot Style Challenge I decided to keep things simple — by layering all different types of candles to create a glowing focal point. I gave an old chair that was previously bright green a makeover using chalk paint and I had a lot of fun creating a hanging chandelier to hover over my bar.

Kristin Cadwallader's Christmas Decorating Ideas for a Merry and Bright Holiday Home

There’s a process to creating a beautiful decor. A well-decorated room doesn’t just pull itself together, after all. This is all the more true when it comes to Christmas decorating, which calls for special attention. Kristin Cadwallader, author of the popular design blog Bliss at Home, is comfortable in this space, though. She makes it look effortless, but she has a plan going into it.

These Christmas decorating ideas she shares are part of our Holiday Style Challenge series. We sent her a mystery box of Home Depot Christmas decorations, and stood back to see how she’d incorporate them into her holiday decor.

She decorated her living room, fireplace mantel and Christmas tree in an elegant mix of colors and textures that’s bright and festive. And best of all, she lets us in on her process of creating her Christmas look.

For this Holiday Style Challenge, I approached it just like I would a room I am designing or styling. I start with the basics– usually traditional elements for the foundation. Then, I find something that inspires. This could be a color, a textile, a piece of artwork. Once I get that thing that makes me excited, I design the rest around it, always with a pop of color and some modern pieces worked in. That is exactly what I did here. So, come on in and I’ll show you my merry and bright take on holiday with some bonus entertaining and styling tips too!

A Winter White And Gold Holiday Tablescape

A Winter White and Gold Holiday Tablescape

Jen Stagg blew us away with the way she styled her pergola. So, how does she do with Christmas decorating?

Awesomely. Of course. Her holiday tablescape is a little industrial and a lot glam, and it rocks.

Jen authors the popular style and DIY blog withHEART, and this is her contribution to our Holiday Style Challenge series. We sent her a mystery box of Home Depot Christmas decorations to spark holiday decorating ideas to share with Home Depot Blog readers.

Christmas morning brunch is a tradition in my family. As a child my father was so cruel as to insist we ate a few bites of breakfast before cracking into our Christmas goodies. I perfected the art of the stuff and run.

Now that I’m grown and have started a family of my own, this is one tradition I have carried on, though we enjoy brunch post presents. Grandparents and relatives come to our home after their own morning activities, and we all enjoy a nice meal together. And there’s nothing I love more than a festive and beautiful table setting.

To me, it wouldn’t the holidays without a little sparkle. I’m also about simplicity and adding in some natural elements. My holiday brunch setting is a marriage of the two.

A Traditional Christmas Tree Decorated with Plaid and Leopard Print

A Traditional Christmas Tree Decorated with Plaid and Leopard Print

You never know where inspiration might come from. Take Whitney Jones’ Christmas tree, for instance. It was the world of fashion that led her idea to mix plaid and leopard print for the holidays.

Whitney writes about decor inspiration on her blog Whitney J Decor, and she’s taking part in our Holiday Style Challenge series here on The Home Depot Blog. We sent her a Christmas tree and a mystery box of Home Depot Christmas decorations to style her home. We then got out of her way while she worked her holiday decorating magic.

Whitney explains how she pulled the leopard print and plaid together, and she shows us how she modified some of her Home Depot decorations to fit her style.

When I was asked by Home Depot to show how I’d decorate my Christmas tree, I was beyond ecstatic. My poor brain was getting boggled from the hundreds of Christmas ideas. I live in a small apartment, and I know that if you put too much Christmas stuff in your home, it could look cluttered and kitschy. So I always try to find the right balance while still showing my holiday spirit.

Last Christmas season, I saw a photo on Pinterest of a model with plaid pants and a leopard print blazer. I wanted to wear that outfit for Christmas. I looked all over for similar pieces, because I LOVE to mix patterns, whether it’s in a home or  an outfit. I couldn’t find a similar outfit. While I STILL haven’t found that perfect leopard blazer or plaid pants, it inspired my decor for Christmas this year. I knew I had to use leopard print and plaid!

While leopard print is a classic pattern that is sure to be in style forever, plaid is a traditional pattern that people love to bring out around the holidays. So, since I was bringing back classic and traditional elements, why not bring back the classic, traditional colors of Christmas: red, green, and gold.

Jessica Garvin admits to having an obsession with chalkboards. Naturally, she managed to include a chalkboard in her Christmas decorations.

She’s also one of the talented bloggers taking part in our Holiday Style Challenge series here on The Home Depot Blog. We sent Jessica a mystery box of Home Depot Christmas decorations for her to use in decorating for the holidays.

Jessica didn’t just style a lovely holiday dessert table… she built the table!  And there’s a chalkboard, of course, with a holiday message. She shows us how she created a chalkboard customized for the spot where she hangs it.

Decorating for the holidays is always a highlight of my year, and this year I was more than thrilled to be decorating an outdoor space with mystery boxes from The Home Depot. I would call my style Modern Farmhouse. I like a collection of vintage things but arranged in a very clean, simplistic way.

Holiday Decorating Ideas For a Scandinavian Styled Fête

Holiday Decorating Ideas For a Scandinavian Styled Fête

Interior designer Eduardo Rodriguez favors modern, under stated decor, but as you’ll see, when it comes to holiday decorating ideas, he’s happy to lay on the sparkle.

Eduardo writes about design and decor on his blog The Designer Pad, and this gorgeously styled Christmas dining area is his contribution to our Holiday Style Challenge series. We sent Eduardo a mystery box of Home Depot Christmas decorations to use to create his own special holiday decor.

He walks us through his design inspiration, and he explains a couple of very simple Christmas DIY projects that use materials from The Home Depot that we never expected.

Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. It’s a time we get together with family and friends to celebrate and make new unforgettable memories. That’s why when I was invited to be part of the Home Depot’s Holiday Style Challenge I couldn’t say no to such a joyful project.

What I cherish most about Christmas day (of course besides the presents) is the memory of my mother setting up a beautiful dining room table where we enjoyed the yummy holiday fare she had spent days cooking. That is a moment that has stayed with me over the years and which I try to recreate every season with my own personal twist.

GIVING A NEW CHRISTMAS COLOR PALETTE A SHOT

I’m more the modern and somewhat minimalistic kind of guy with a crush for everything simple and Scandinavian – the reason why I wanted to veer away from the traditional red-and-green Christmas color palette and use the Nordic style as inspiration for this project. Besides, it complements my decor a lot better. So I opted for an elegant palette of black, white, grey and silver for my concept to create a Winter Wonderland for the dessert table setting.
