Outdoor Decor with Artificial Grass

Artificial grass turned out to be the solution when Kristin Jackson unexpectedly needed to refinish her deck. Not only did it turn out to be an easy, low maintenance way to cover the deck floor, but it also turned out to be a lush, green, barefoot-friendly way to enhance her outdoor decor.

Of course, as the talent behind the very popular DIY and decor blog The Hunted Interior, Kristin knows a thing or two about outdoor decor. She was one of the first participants in our Patio Style Challenge series with her amazing deck makeover. After a minor incident that erased some of the work she did on the deck, she’s back for a bit of a refresh. It’s what we’re calling a Patio Style Challenge Redux.

An Easy Patio Update With Vivid, Carribean-Inspired Color

We loved the zen-inspired patio Camille Simmons styled for our Patio Style Challenge series. But Camille, who’s the talent behind the blog Planning Pretty, insists that something was missing and it was time for an easy patio update.

We’re not going to argue with a talented DIYer the likes of Camille, so… sure! Let’s do a patio update. We were excited to see how she could improve on the comfortable and peaceful outdoor space she designed for her (very fortunate) brother. It’s a Patio Style Challenge Redux.

Turns out her patio update really was easy, as you’re about to see. It mostly involved some spray paint a few simple items for the potting table-turned-outdoor buffet. The patio is still a lovely, peaceful spot, but with color.

Corner Bench and Flowers Add Charm to Patio

The new corner bench is the star of this patio. Gloria Lebron of I Don’t Know How She Does It! built it on her patio to give the space extra seating and a more welcoming environment. The flower planter that she included in the corner bench design certainly added to the appeal. Of course, the added corner bench seating also gives her more opportunities for her excellent patio decorating ideas.

This is Gloribel’s second Patio Style Challenge for The Home Depot Blog. Previously, she showed us how to make the most out of a very small apartment balcony, but now, she’s working with a larger outdoor design canvas in her new home.

Build a Paver Patio for a Backyard Upgrade

In her previous, renter-friendly backyard upgrade, Caitlin Kruse of Style Within Reach made excellent use of a couple of under appreciated materials: gravel and pavers. She’s back for another backyard project in our Patio Style Challenge series, and this time she puts pavers and gravel to use in building a paver patio.

To be sure, you’ll also see plenty of Caitlin’s talent for outdoor decorating. But the gravel and paver patio is the star of this show. It’s was a very cost effective way for Caitlin to expand her outdoor living space, plus she solved some annoying drainage problems in her backyard.

And best of all, it looks terrific.

Colorful Updates to a Flower-Filled Outdoor Living Room

As much fun as a complete deck makeover can be, often all it takes is a few simple steps to make your outdoor space seem new again. You can turn a backyard deck into a veritable outdoor living room by planting some colorful flowers, changing the pillows on the patio furniture, or just hanging some planters.

Stephanie Fisher of Glitter and Goat Cheese is here to show us exactly that– small outdoor decor ideas that have a big imact. We first saw her gorgeous new pergola a while back here on The Home Depot Blog. It was for our Patio Style Challenge series. Now we revisit her covered deck for a Patio Style Challenge Redux.

Stephanie will show us a really simple way to plant flowers and a fun do-it-yourself way to add colorful tassels to outdoor pillows. But first, she has to remake and improve a cute hanging garden that didn’t quite survive the winter on her outdoor living room.
