At The Home Depot you will find over 3,000 different paint colors to choose from to create just the right tone and feel for in every room of the home. And while we’d say that this is certainly a good thing, so many choices can make it a bit tricky deciding which colors to go with.
This short video will show you some great tips on how to choose the right paint color– or colors– for your room.
Pick a focal point in the room, and match the color to it. This could be a rug, a piece of art or even just an accent pillow. The Home Depot’s color matching system can create exactly the color of paint you want.
This means that you’re best off if you make choosing the paint color the last thing you do when decorating a room. It’s a lot easier to match paint to objects in the room than it is, say, to find exactly the right rug to match the paint on the walls. And when you’re considering different shades of paint for a room with paint samples, be sure to observe how the tints look at various times of day as the light changes. The type of light in the room can have a big effect on how the paint color looks.
This video also illustrates what decorators call the 60-30-10 Rule. This is a rule of thumb for choosing up to three different colors for one room– 60 percent of the area should be the main color, 30 percent a secondary color, and 10 percent an accent color.
Also, consider the relative color “temperature”. Cooler colors, such as blues and greens, tend to create a soothing atmosphere, while the warmer tones, such as oranges and yellows, tend to add energy to a room.
It’s all explained in this short video.
