If your outdoor space isn’t ready for warm sunny days and crisp spring mornings, we have ideas to help you create the perfect outdoor oasis for your space. These patio ideas will make your outdoor space cozy and comfortable. Furniture is clearly an important part of making your outdoor room livable, but patio accessories are an important part of creating an inviting lounge area. Pillows, throw blankets, and rugs are the best way to make your outdoor room feel like the perfect spot to relax with a book and a cup of coffee. We’ll show you how to finish your space with a few key accessories.

We began by selecting a color palette. For this porch swing area, we pulled our color palette from the Coral Breeze Layla Trellis Pillow which combines a soft aqua with a vibrant coral. We then selected the Pisa Blue 22 inch Pillow which complements the aqua in the color pillow and has a similar geometric shape.

Just as you would top a beautiful coffee table with a spray of flowers, greenery is an easy way of giving an outdoor room extra interest. We included a few potted herbs on a pedestal table to create a more lively space.

A rug is an easy way to make your outdoor space feel more comfortable. It adds softness under foot, protects against splinters, and keeps concrete or tile patios from burning your feet! Rugs can also add an important visual element to the space. We used the Martha Stewart Living Fretwork Outdoor rug in Sand/Rust, and it complemented our original color palette beautifully. (Having walked on this rug a good bit and seen it up close, know that it’s incredibly soft and cushy – not something you might expect from a rug that can be hosed down!)

Finally, if your outdoor space backs up to your neighbors, considering using a privacy screen to make it feel more cozy. You certainly can’t enjoy your morning cup of coffee if you’re paranoid your neighbors will see you in your bathrobe!

Budget breakdown: We paired several new accessories in our coral-and-aqua color palette with a few white accents we already had, like the large white pillow and the white throw blanket.
Drop cloth privacy screen — $48.84
Coral Breeze Layla Trellis pillows (x2) — $27.96
Martha Stewart Living Fretwork rug in Sand/Rust — starting at $74
Pisa Blue 22 inch pillow — $19
White stool (similar look) — $58.99
Grand total: $228.79

how hard is it to install a stair railing
Hi Walter. Installing a stair railing is about a medium difficulty DIY project. So depending on your skill level, it may be a fairly easy project for you to tackle yourself. Take a look at our stair railing installation Project Guide and see for yourself. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
Love this quick makeover – especially the color palette! Did you make the drop cloth privacy screen or is that something you can buy? Would love to add that to my patio for some much needed privacy.
Hi Abbi!
The drop cloth privacy screen is a project we took on for this outdoor space. We’ll be posting the project in the next few weeks!
